While the rest of the country is experiencing icy temperatures and their gardens have gone to sleep for the winter, the temperatures here in Central Florida are generally moderate enough for many flowers still to be blooming. Flowers for spring are sown October to February. Many are hardy annuals and so can take a light frost. Others are covered with frost protection if the temperatures dip low enough. Dahlia tubers that have been stored and planted out in November often start to flower in January. Garden roses are often flowering at this time too.
